Fourth-down gamble pays off for Lions with St. Brown TD

Reporter Erin Andrews noted that the heavy rain at Lambeau Field was falling sideways as the Lions began their first drive at the 30. The Lions ran the ball on four of their first 6 plays and on 2nd and 6 from the Packers 41, Jared Goff finds tight end Sam LaPorta for 19 yards and a first down to the Packers’ 22. Three plays later, 3rd and 5 from the 17, the Lions caught the Packers short of shotgun and David Montgomery ran for 9 yards and a 1st and goal from the 8. However, the Lions gave Montgomery the ball three times more and the Packers only allow three yards, setting up a 4th and goal. The quarter ends and rather than sending Jake Bates for a field goal, the Lions go for the TD on fourth down. A false start by the Packers brought them two yards closer and A’Mon St. Brown caught a pass in the end zone over Nixon to give the Lions a 7-3 lead after the extra point.

Packers take 3-0 lead on McManus 30-yard field goal

The Packers receive the kick and Keisean Nixon returns it 29 yards, but an unnecessary roughness call brings the Packers back to the 34. A 13-yard first run by Josh Jacobs immediately gives the Packers good field position at the 47 and a two-yard shot. Jacobs’ completion on 3rd-and-3 sets up a 4th-and-1 at the Detroit 44. With Jordan Love riding shotgun, Tucker Kraft gets moving and takes a direct snap and gets the first down. After a false start from Jacobs, Love finds an open Roméo Doubs, but he drops the pass. On the next play, Love threw Dee down the sideline to Christian Watson and he caught the ball at its highest point for a 19-yard gain. Two plays later, the offensive line opened a huge hole for Jacobs after a cut and he recovered 11 yards. Two plays later, on 3rd and 7, Love leaves Chris Brooks open for a likely touchdown, but he throws the ball behind him and Brooks can’t catch, Brandon McManus kicks a 30-yard field goal to get three points on a strong first down . to drive.

Jordan Love active, Josh Myers and Jaire Alexander inactive against Lions

With first place in the NFC North on the line, Jordan Love is active For Sunday’s showdown between the Green Bay Packers And Detroit Lions.

Love left last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars early in the third quarter with a groin injury. He was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report after practicing Thursday and Friday. When the Packers opted not to elevate practice squad quarterback Sean Clifford to the active roster for Saturday, that cleared the way for Love to start.

On a soggy Lambeau Field, Love will have a different center. Josh Myers is inactive due to a left wrist injury after being listed as questionable. It remains to be seen how the Packers will reconfigure their offensive line, but the Packers will have every other offensive lineman available.
