Investigators with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office believe the two suspects, alongside 20-year-old Jonathan Arriola, were in a sedan that left an illegal rave after getting into a scuffle with other attendees.

The suspects allegedly fled the scene, drove their vehicle to a high vantage point above the abandoned Knights of Columbus hall where the unauthorized party was being held, and opened fire with a converted handgun. fully automatic weapon.

Desirae Rivera was killed almost instantly by gunfire and Jesus Flavilla was shot in the abdomen.

Sheriff Salazar also told the media that the event organizers had not been the most cooperative, alleging they withheld crucial evidence from investigators that could have led to quicker arrests.

Salazar said he anticipated more arrests would follow.

Sheriff Salazar also said his office has seen more illegal parties being held in vacant homes or empty commercial buildings.

“The parties themselves are happening more often and they are much more organized. There are party crews that do this for profit, so they put it out on social media,” Sheriff Salazar said.

Bennie Price, founder of Big Mama’s Safe House, said it’s also alarming and concerning how easily teenagers and young adults can get their hands on guns.

“Guns are being made available to young people at an alarming rate that has never been seen before,” Price said.

Salazar went on to say that illegal parties held in vacant homes and buildings have been deadly. In August 2024, 17-year-old Landyn Reyes was also shot and killed at a large party after organizers broke in and took over a newly built but still vacant house.

“While we’re sure there are kids who are just there to have a good time, the fact is there are bad actors who go to these parties, and they bring guns, often stolen guns , often stolen guns that have been stolen. converted to fully automatic weapons,” Sheriff Salazar said.

Price said this terrifying trend will continue if something doesn’t change, and that’s why Big Mama’s Safe House is working to give teens an outlet.

“It’s a cultural thing. Either you open the door for them to access guns or you open the door for them to access different youth programs, and it seems like more guns are available than youth programs,” Price said.
