Janitor arrested for stealing gold from his employer

Bengaluru: A woman working as a guard was arrested by Konankunte Police for stealing gold jewelry from her employer’s house. The police recovered 108 grams of gold, worth Rs 12 lakh from the accused.
The arrested person is Sonia, a resident of CK Palya on Bannerghatta Road and Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. She worked in a businessman’s house.
Bhavana Phanindra, a resident of an apartment in Anjanadri Layout, said in her complaint filed with the Konankunte police on October 31 that she found the ornaments, including six gold chains, a pair of bangles, earrings ‘ears, a bracelet and a nose ring missing from an iron. box kept in one of the bedrooms during the early hours of the day.
She and her family members had kept the decorations in the box on October 7 after the Dasara festival. She wanted to take the ornaments for Lakshmi puja and deepavali but found them stolen. She suspected that there were two caretakers hired to look after her elderly mother-in-law. Sonia, hired through an agency, had been working in their house for two weeks and left her job.
Police arrested her on November 7 at her home and subjected her to interrogation. She confessed to the crime. Police recovered 18 grams of gold jewelry from her house and an eight-gram gold ring that she had given to her husband.
She had sold the remaining ornaments to a jewelry store in RBI Layout, claiming that they belonged to her and that she needed money due to an emergency. The police recovered the decorations.
