The deadline to submit nominations for the awards is Friday, January 31, 2025 at 5 p.m.

Do you know of an individual or group in our community whose exceptional volunteer efforts and unwavering commitment to positively impact the lives of others? Dare County invites you to recognize the exceptional dedication of local volunteers who go above and beyond by submitting an application for the 2025 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.

Appointments for the 2025 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards are being accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, and Dare County volunteers who have given a substantial amount of their time and talent to help the Other members of the community through outstanding volunteer service are eligible to be nominated for this prestigious award.

Any individual, group or business in the public, nonprofit or private sector serving Dare County is eligible to be nominated. Nominations will be submitted to the county awards coordinator, who will then present them to a committee that will conduct a review of the nominees before selecting the top 10 volunteers in Dare County.

Nominations are also being accepted for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, an honor established in 2006 to recognize the top 20 to 25 volunteers in North Carolina. Medallion Award recipients are nominated by the county awards coordinator, and only one Medallion Award nomination is allowed per county. Medallion Award recipients are determined by a statewide panel that conducts an evaluation of applications and selects recipients.

North Carolina Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service Nominations may be submitted for volunteers who have provided services in a variety of areas, including:

  • Veteran/Military: provide volunteer services to military families and/or veterans
  • Serving youth: demonstrating exceptional commitment to mentoring or educating young people
  • Disaster: providing volunteer services in disaster preparedness, response, recovery or mitigation
  • Animals : demonstrating exceptional commitment to volunteering with or for animals
  • Environmental: provide exceptional commitment to environmental management
  • Historically marginalized populations: provide remarkable dedication to helping members of marginalized populations
  • Preserving North Carolina: demonstrating remarkable dedication to the restoration or preservation of the state’s history, culture, or arts
  • Health and social services: demonstrate remarkable dedication to individuals or groups in need
  • Lifetime Achievement: demonstrating over 20 years of ongoing commitment to volunteerism and community service

Nominators can also select one of several categories for the type of volunteer proposed, including Family, Youth, Senior, Latino, Faith-Based Entity, Corporate/Corporate, Group/Team, National Service Member, Volunteer Director (Paid Staff) . and perseverance in volunteering (an individual or team who has overcome significant personal obstacles and/or mental or physical disability).

Applicants may be nominated in more than one category, and nominators are encouraged to check all categories that apply to their nominees. However, only one person and/or one business/group/team/family must be nominated. Self-nominations are not permitted and previous recipients of the North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Award within the last 10 years are not eligible.

Award selections are based on nominees’ volunteer efforts, as well as their accomplishments, time commitment and overall impact on the community, as described on the nomination form.

Nominations for the 2025 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards can be submitted online by clicking here or by clicking on the “Submit an online application” button below to access the application form.

Application forms can also be downloaded as PDF or a Microsoft Word document and completed electronically. Those who choose to download the nomination form in PDF or Microsoft Word format should submit their completed nomination forms to Shannon Glaser, Dare County North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards Coordinator, via email at following address: [email protected].
