Potsdam City Council will meet this evening to adopt the preliminary budget

POTSDAM — A public hearing on the city’s preliminary 2025 budget begins tonight at 5:30 p.m., and the City Council is expected to adopt the financial plan for the coming year after some review and amendments at its meeting that follows.

The council is also expected to approve several staff hires, allocate excess sales tax revenue toward the costs of repairing storm damage and building a Postwood bathhouse, authorize the city clerk to hire up to three deputy clerks to handle a growing workload in the office, and other city business.

The 2025 preliminary budget currently calls for a slight increase in taxes for the general fund to $1.89 per $1,000 of assessed property value, up from $1.72 per $1,000 of assessed property value. current year. The total levy for the general fund will increase from $1,009,656.21 to $1,117,882. The 2025 general fund appropriations in the preliminary budget are $2,009,182, up from $1,995,356.21 in the current year.

Tonight’s board meeting will feature consideration of several amendments and revisions that could slightly change the final numbers on various positions.
