WHO launches new guidelines for HPV testing

Financial news

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – On the occasion of the “Day of Action to Eliminate Cervical Cancer”, the World Health Organization launched new guidelines on product profiles targets or TPP for human papillomavirus testing.

The tests could be used in remote areas of low- and middle-income countries, accelerating efforts to eliminate cervical cancer in these areas.

Women have the option to collect their own samples for testing, allowing them to test for HPV at any location.

“The new publication aims to support innovation in the HPV testing market, with a focus on high-performance, low-cost and accessible solutions that are particularly transformative in resource-limited settings,” WHO said.

Many countries have organized HPV testing and testing campaigns, launched new health policies to eliminate cancer, and raised awareness about the disease.

“I thank all health workers who are playing a vital role in this global effort,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General.

“Even as we make progress, we still face huge inequalities, with women in low-income countries bearing the majority of the burden. Only with strong leadership and sustained investment can we achieve our shared goal of equitable access for the communities that need it most.
