Lake effect showers diminish and dry out most of the weekend

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – Cloudy skies continued around Mid-Michigan and this doesn’t appear to be a trend that will slow down anytime soon.

But the showers that accompanied these cloudy skies should ease until the weekend and we will have a chance to catch our breath for a minute. Try not to get used to this dry weather eventually taking over, things look to be more unsettled next week as we get closer to Thanksgiving, although no major storm systems are in play locally for the moment.

Tonight and all night

Lake effect showers will remain possible through the evening and overnight, but coverage is expected to remain isolated to widely scattered. With a northwest wind, our northwest areas near Roscommon, Ogemaw. etc. and the thumb will be the most subject to these showers. They should remain light and new precipitation amounts should be minimal (less than 0.25″).

Low temperatures tonight will be in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures in the 40s this afternoon won’t drop too much tonight with continued cloud cover, with most of us only falling into the upper 30s and lower 40s this evening. Winds will be from the northwest between 5 and 15 miles per hour with gusts near 20 to 25 miles per hour.

Saturday and Sunday

Cloudy skies are expected through the weekend, but we should remain drier compared to several days this week. There will be a few lingering showers on Saturday in the same northwest facing areas mentioned above, but like Friday evening they are not expected to be heavy and should be a nuisance. We should start to see these showers taper off Saturday afternoon and evening.

Highs on Saturday are expected to be in the low to mid 40s with a northwest wind around 10 to 15 miles per hour and gusts near 25 miles per hour.

Dry weather should set in Saturday evening, but the sky will remain cloudy. Lows will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Highs will be similar or slightly warmer on Sunday.

It will be a cooler start to Sunday, so despite a southwest wind taking over Sunday, high temperatures may not be much warmer, if at all, Sunday afternoon. Expect another day in the mid 40s with a few upper 40s possible in our warmer areas.

No wet weather is expected Sunday evening at this time, but our next round of wet weather will arrive Monday, with an expectation of rain at this time. Overnight lows Monday morning will mostly stabilize in the mid to upper 30s.
