Don’t Share Your Dinner With Pets: Here’s How to Keep Your Pets Safe

Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)

Animals love two things: their humans and food! Often we want to give our cats and dogs small portions of our meals. However, too much salt and sugar may not be good for them.

It’s also important to remember that some foods intended for humans are actually toxic to pets. Here are some foods you should avoid feeding your pets.

Chocolate is quite toxic to dogs and cats. Chocolate contains caffeine as well as theobromine, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea in animals. But in severe cases, they can have seizures and even heart problems.

Grapes are another thing you should avoid giving your pets! Grapes and raisins contain a toxin that can cause liver damage and kidney failure, and make some dogs extremely ill.

Onions are delicious and we love adding them to our foods. But be careful: onions are deadly for cats and dogs.

Even if your pet begs you, think twice before giving him a piece of food from your plate.

Is it safe?

Based on the information in the introduction, explain why these foods are not safe for your pets.

  1. Fried rice (with eggs, carrots and green onions)

  2. Candy bar

  3. Coffee

  4. Raisin bread
