Final Fantasy 14’s Yoshi-P confirms Square Enix remains committed to its cross-platform strategy, but hopes more Xbox fans will actually play its new JRPGs

Square-Enix appears to remain committed to its new cross-platform approach and will continue to release games on PC and all consoles in the future, according to Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida.

Square Enix has gained something of a reputation as a publisher with generally odd platform exclusivity deals. For example, the first Octopath Traveler eventually came to all platforms except PlayStation, while its sequel, Octopath Traveler 2, came to all platforms except Xbox at launch, before the two cross the multi-platform divide together. Its exclusivity approach, however, appears to have hurt initial launch sales of some of its biggest games. the company recently announced that it would “aggressively pursue a multi-platform strategy.”
