Police crack down on illegal cannabis sales

GREECE, NY — Greek police are cracking down on illegal cannabis sales with help from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).

On Wednesday, OCM and Greek police searched nine stores located in Monroe County for illegal cannabis and padlocked them. Seven people were arrested in this case and are now prohibited from obtaining a cannabis license if they apply for one in the future, according to an OCM spokesperson.

“If we find you operating, we will take whatever enforcement action we have against you. So at this point, if we step in and take action, they no longer have any way to clean up the law and try to operate legally,” the OCM spokesperson said.

Nine stores now have signs on their doors after being raided by investigators.

After the success of this investigation in Greece, the state office announced its intention to conduct more frequent routine checks with other agencies. The OCM says many officers work in Western New York and are out every week.
