The Flyers mysteriously lost goaltender Samuel Ersson in the first period.

The Philadelphia Flyers have lost their goaltender, presumably to injury, although I have to admit that no one really seems to know what’s going on at the moment.

On Saturday, the Flyers hosted the Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, but things quickly went south during the first period of the game. Just over 7 minutes into the game, Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson appeared to remove himself from the game after a lull in the action, leaving only questions as to why he was leaving the game.

After a stoppage in play and a subsequent commercial break, Ersson could be seen speaking to both a member of the Flyers training staff and a National Hockey League official as the other officials attempted to let it go the puck at the other end of the ice. Ersson, the official and the coach spoke briefly on camera for a few moments before Ersson left the ice and returned.

The Flyers released a comment on the situation, but they’re not saying much, saying only that general manager Daniel Briere confirms Ersson will not return to the game today. Again, this leads me to believe that there may have been some sort of injury at play here, but that’s just pure speculation on my part at this point.

Brière indicated that he hopes to have more information once the game is completed, but we will have to wait and see if that is indeed the case as the game is still in progress as of this writing.

Ersson has played a big role for the Flyers this season, appearing in 8 of their 11 games thus far, and any injury that keeps him out of the lineup would be bad news for a Flyers team that has had struggling to start the season with a record. of 4-6-1.
