SpaceX Cape Canaveral launch Wednesday puts Starlink into orbit

play

Wednesday evening under clear skies above Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40SpaceX has launched its latest batch of Starlink internet satellites exactly as planned.

The Falcon 9 launch at 5:10 p.m. EDT was remarkably quiet, depending on where you were in Brevard County, as the rocket ascended on a northeast trajectory.

About eight minutes after takeoff, the first stage landed on the A lack of gravity droneship in the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the distance, Brevard did not hear any sonic booms.

This mission marked the 14th flight of this specific Falcon 9 booster. Previous missions this booster served on include: nine other Starlink missions, mPOWER-B, BlueBird-1, Crew-6 and USSF-124.

This wasn’t the only launch on Wednesday. Shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, SpaceX launched a previous batch of Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Station in California.

SpaceX dual launches from Florida to begin this week

According to navigation warnings, the Space Coast could undergo a double launch.

SpaceX plans to launch its Starlink 6-77 mission on Sunday afternoon between 4:57 p.m. and 9:28 p.m. EDT. For this launch, the booster will land on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean.

The next day, SpaceX and NASA plan to launch the CRS-31 resupply mission to the International Space Station. Launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket, this Cargo Dragon spacecraft will provide not only supplies, but also multiple experiences to astronauts aboard the ISS. The launch is scheduled for a snap window of 9:29 p.m., as the timing must be calculated correctly to catch the ISS, which is traveling at more than 17,500 miles per hour.

This Monday evening launch will send a sonic boom throughout Brevard County as the first stage booster returns to a Cape Canaveral landing zone.
