The Amarillo Police Department has received various reports of stolen power tools from businesses and individuals.

“There was a particular person who was doing a lot of sales on Facebook, a lot of power tools, in an apartment. Hundreds and hundreds of items were stolen from different stores throughout Amarillo as well as personal property that was stolen,” said Sergeant Carla Burr with APD.

The men stored the stolen tools in Moreno’s apartment, while a search warrant revealed that more than 400 various power tools had been recovered.

Sergeant Burr warns that when purchasing items from social media sites, be careful as they could be stolen.

Burr also advises residents to keep their garage doors closed, gates locked and to never leave tools in your vehicle.

“Saying, ‘Well, no one cares about theft,’ you know, but obviously we do,” Burr said. “So this is a way to show that we take this seriously.” Even though it’s a property crime, it’s still a crime, and we want people to know that we’re going to work to try to return those property to them, and to the stores, to the businesses in the community .

Burr also advises taking photos of serial numbers and purchased items when purchasing new items at any store. This can help find these items if they are stolen.

Officials say the men face additional charges because they are linked to a 2023 HteaO robbery in which they assaulted employees while stealing a cooler.
