Couples Who Almost Divorced Talk About What Changed Your Mind

Halloween is long gone, which means Christmas movies are here (and let me tell you, I can’t get enough of them).

For years, Hallmark and Lifetime have locked down the Christmas movie market with the perfect feel-good formula for the season: have someone work a demanding job in a big city, reluctantly go home to the vacation only to find love or realize he wants that old thing, I’m coming back.

But now that new networks have joined the Black Christmas tradition, the story is no longer just about finding love, it’s also about realizing you don’t want to leave it.

In other words, the couples who were stopping by decided to call on Cupid for a Hail Mary.

I watched a new Netflix movie the other day (produced by Hallmark no less), and the opening scenes included a woman revealing her heart to a man telling him she wanted to take it to the next level and the invite home for Christmas.

His response: He was flattered, but decided he wanted to find a way to reconcile with his soon-to-be ex-wife (oops, forgot to mention her, by the way).

The woman was devastated, but he was thrilled with his decision to dust himself off and try again with the woman who made him say, “Yes.”

I’ve now seen this new storyline play out in a few holiday movies, and it got me thinking: What makes people call off their divorces before the ink is dry? And since I don’t have the answers, I turn to you.
