CT Yankees fan banned from World Series game after grabbing Mookie Betts’ glove

(WFSB) – Two Yankees fans are banned from tonight’s World Series game after aggressively obstructing Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts last night.

The fan who grabbed Betts’ glove after making a catch is from Connecticut.

Austin Capobianco is a Branford season ticket holder.

He pulled the ball out of Betts’ glove as his friend grabbed Betts’ hand.

Capobianco and his friend were ejected from Yankee Stadium for blatant and unacceptable physical contact with Betts.

They are now banned from Game 5 tonight.

Meanwhile, Connecticut Yankees fans take the train to the game. This is another win-or-go-home game for New York.

No team has ever come back from three games down to win the World Series.

“It was obnoxious but at the same time it could have been the spark the Yankees needed. Fans are showing that they are willing to put everything on the line to get some energy. We’ll see. I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Cristian Pena, of New Haven.

“There’s a line you probably shouldn’t cross between being a passionate fan, getting involved in the game and potentially hurting a player, regardless of the team they play for,” said Irving Cortes, Hartford.

The Bronx Bombers Bats came alive in Game 4 with Anthony Volpe’s grand slam sparking the Yankees.

Tonight is another win-or-go-home game against the Dodgers.

“I think we need to ride the wave. We have the right guy on the mound tonight. Gerrit Cole is coming,” Cortes said.

“I hope we can use the energy from last night,” Pena added.

Last night’s moment of madness was reminiscent of the infamous Steve Bartman incident, one of the most controversial in baseball postseason history.

Quinnipiac journalism professor Nick Pietruszkiewicz was at Wrigley Field the night Bartman interfered with a foul ball, potentially affecting the Cubs’ chances of winning the pennant.

“The craziest thing I ever saw was Steve Bartman, and yes, that took me back to it last night. I think there is a significant difference,” Pietruszkiewicz said. “It was just a guy at the game looking for a foul ball. These two guys, it wasn’t an accident.

First pitch is set for 8:08 p.m.

If the Yankees survive, they will travel to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Friday.

Yankee Stadium will host more than 45,000 fans, but Austin Capobianco will not be in the building.
