Buzz Williams Previews Texas A&M Aggies vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: ‘They’re Really Good’

Texas A&M Aggies head coach Buzz Williams met with the media on Thursday to preview Friday’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Reed Arena.

Here’s part of what he had to say:

“Coach (Jake Diebler) was on their team with Coach (Chris) Holtmann last year, and we played the first Friday in November. Anytime you play that early in November, it’s hard to know what a team is or their style of play, to be honest So I think the coach (Holtmann) was let go, maybe for Valentine’s Day. Then I think they went 5-1. to close out the Big Ten game. I think they’re 2-1 in the NIT and 2-0 so far so we’ve really tried to focus more on those 13 games, I think any time you’re put in one. situation like that as a coach, it’s hard to know if you completely throw away everything you were doing in February So a completely different team compared to Ohio State’s commitment to its. collective and the talent she wants having in revenue sports, it’s obvious she’s done an incredible job.

“Two McDonald’s All-Americans start for them. No. 2 (Bruce Thornton) is a first-team All-American point guard. We played against him last year, but they are ultra talented, and I think the Coach Diebler played a role of responsibility offensively last year and and you can say that’s one of his many gifts, and what they’re trying to accomplish, offensively, but in a stereotypical way, one. all new team in a lot of ways (Thornton) is going to play 35, 36. minutes, (Meechie Johnson Jr.) we know he started there last year, when we played him he was in Carolina South Now he’s back from No. 8 San Diego State (Micah Parrish), No. 13 (Sean Stewart), transfer from Kentucky, No. 4 (Aaron Bradshaw)… No. 0 (). John Mobley Jr.) shooting 88% from three to start his college career, which is otherworldly (Devin Royal) was on their team last year. He’s a returner. He played seven minutes against us. He’s made a big leap forward in terms of the minutes he’s playing and the role he’s playing. So, different staff members, it’s hard to know if that’s exactly what they were doing last year, because I think part of what they did to close out the year was probably what they had done it all year. »

They’re big, not necessarily just on the inside. They’re just big, period. (Thornton) is big, like “intimidate you”, big, not necessarily big. But yeah, this is as talented a team as they’ll be around in a while. They’re really good.”
