The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway are closed at Exit 48 in Bohemia as Suffolk County police investigate a crash, according to a department spokesperson.

Suffolk police did not provide details of the crash or estimate when the lanes would reopen, but they said the crash appeared serious.

The New York State Department of Transportation’s 511 website showed the highway is closed from Exit 48 at Smithtown and Locust avenues to Exit 46 at Carleton Avenue in Islip.

Police said the crash was reported around 3:37 p.m. Shortly before 7 p.m., police said the road remained closed westbound.
