Black Ops 6 breaks Call of Duty series records with mega opening weekend

It was only a matter of time before Activision and Microsoft started letting off fireworks to celebrate another colossal Call of Duty launch. Most new CoDs often come with a selection of very positive and carefully curated engagement and sales stats that always manage to show that the series is thriving. Well, now it’s Black Ops 6It’s ‘s turn, and to be honest, it doesn’t really seem like there’s a need to dress things up this time around – not only did it beat last year’s Modern Warfare 3 in terms of sales, but it also took advantage of the biggest launch weekend. of any Call of Duty game of all time.

Thanks to a combination of remarks made by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during an earnings call and posts from the official Call of Duty X account, some truly impressive records were shared. While they of course don’t include exact numbers (they never do), they do confirm that Black Ops 6The first three days of the series saw the highest number of players, hours played and matches in the history of the series.

With a four-year development cycle, Black Ops 6 not only delivered fun multiplayer action at launch, but its campaign and Zombies offerings are much more than half-baked afterthoughts in recent entries. THE FPS game also benefited from an obscene amount of mainstream marketing (even by CoD standards) and of course, it launched on Game Pass on day one, meaning millions of players subscribed to the service were able to participate at no additional cost.

Nadella also confirms that the appeal of Black Ops 6 generated “the highest number of Game Pass subscriber additions ever on a launch day.” While Microsoft is going to take a hit when it comes to premium sales on the Xbox ecosystem, if the Game Pass hook can sink in and allow people to pay for it every month, it will more than make up for it in the long run. I really hope Microsoft gives us updated subscriber numbers before the end of the year, just to see the impact of Black Ops 6.

Elsewhere on PC and PlayStation platforms, sales were up 60% compared to Modern Warfare 3 over the same period. While it’s not surprising to see Black Ops 6 trump the criticized and rushed MW3, a 60% increase is huge when we’re talking about the millions of sales a typical CoD game will achieve.
