Pakistani authorities said a bus carrying members of a wedding party crashed into a river, killing around 14 people, including a newlywed couple, according to media reports.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (November 12) in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, reported THE Independent, News from the sky, Reuters And Al Jazeera.

According to authorities, the bus was on its way to Punjab’s Chakwal district when it fell into the Indus River from Telchi Bridge, Pakistan Television reported. Geo reported.

About two dozen people on the bus were part of a wedding procession, according to Al Jazeera. Thirteen bodies have been found in the Indus River and twelve people are still missing and presumed dead due to the freezing temperatures.

The Independent also reported that the injured bride was rescued from the river but later died in a hospital, while her new husband is believed to have died.

Speeding was involved in the accident and the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, Reuters reports, citing authorities.

Searches were underway to find those missing in the accident, according to Geo.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sympathy over the incident and called on rescuers to quickly locate the other missing people, Sky News reported.

In August, two separate bus crashes claimed the lives of about 36 people and injured dozens, Pakistani officials said. Associated Press reported.

In one incident, a bus carrying Shiite Muslim pilgrims returning from Iraq fell into a ravine while traveling on a highway in southern Pakistan, killing around 12 people, according to the news agency.

In another incident, around 25 people died after a bus ended up in a ditch in Kahuta, a rescue official said, according to the The New York Times.
