Max Verstappen raises major concerns at Red Bull after Mexican GP

Three-time F1 champion Max Verstappen found himself battling significant issues during the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver has since raised concerns about his car’s pace.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, during which he received 20-second penalties, he commented:

“The problem is when you’re slower you end up in these kinds of positions. I’m not going to give up easily.

“At the end of the day, it’s also not about agreeing or disagreeing with penalties – the only thing is that 20 seconds is a lot – but the biggest problem today “Today and also what worries me is the race pace. It really wasn’t the case. It’s good and it’s something that we have to analyze. Even without these penalties. We had no chance of fighting in front.

Carlos Sainz, driving for Ferrari, capitalized on these challenges to take victory, while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium. Verstappen nevertheless remained optimistic about the title race. He added:

“I’m not worried (about the title). It was a very bad race for us but I also know that we can do much better than that, so we will continue.”

Red Bull Team Leader Christian Horner also commented on the race as well as Verstappen’s penalties:

“Max left the track at turn 4 and then at turn 7, Lando opened the door very late and both ran out there.

“The problem is I think we’re going to get into very dangerous territory: At what point is a dive bomb going to be acceptable?

“I really think the FIA and the drivers need to sit down and decide what is acceptable and what is not. I thought two 10-second (penalties) were a bit harsh today.”

“You always have to respect the rules. We will watch and learn from this race, but the biggest thing for us today is that we just didn’t have the pace. That’s where we will focus during the course of the next five days.
