Gators forward Sam Alexis plays pivotal role off the bench

Florida Alligators forward transfer Sam Alexis has the opportunity to become the next surprise addition to the transfer portal.

Through the first two games, Alexis is averaging 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. Not too bad for a guy who only plays 15 minutes per game.

However, the 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward hasn’t exactly flashed it deep to start the season. In fact, he hasn’t made a single three-pointer in four attempts this year. But that has never been his strong point in attack. Instead, he was a bruiser in the low post and showed a feathery touch around the rim to go along with his expected high-level defense on the other end.

He played just 14 minutes in the Gators’ opener against South Florida, finishing with six points, five rebounds (four defensive), one block and a steal. A real jam of statistics sheets.

Alexis then followed this strong performance with an even better performance on his home debut. In the Gators’ win over Jacksonville, he finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 16 minutes of action.

Its role at present is mainly to provide significant relief when Alex Condon And Rueben Chinyelu coming off the bench, which he did extremely well. But I’m not the only one to notice it. His head coach, who is in the front row at every game, came to the same conclusion.

“He’s really, really productive when he’s on the field,” Golden said.

And while his overall production has been excellent, it’s his defensive talents that should really be praised. Alexis has great length, which has caused opposing teams a ton of problems on the outside as well as in the paint. It also allowed him to accumulate five blocks and two steals in just two games.

If this is going to be the baseline of how he plays this season, then the Gators won’t have much to worry about when they have to turn to the bench.
