WASHINGTON (TNND) — Lee Greenwood, singer of the popular song “God Bless the USA,” denied Tuesday that he received money from President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign to use his song.

Trump has used “God Bless the United States” in various appearances, including rallies, since his 2016 presidential campaign. Greenwood performed the song at the Republican National Convention this year and also granted Trump the permission to use it as a walkout song at political rallies.

The singer also collaborated with Trump on the “God Bless the USA” bible, which contains the US Constitution and other founding documents.

“And I’m proud to be an American/Where at least I know I’m free,” the song’s lyrics say. “And I won’t forget the men who died / Who gave me this right.”

In a post via X Tuesday, Greenwood explained that his partnership with Trump did not involve any money. Allowing Trump to use the song, he said, was a way to support the campaign without donating money.

“I received $0 from the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization to perform/appear at Trump rallies or events,” Greenwood wrote. “I have supported President Trump since 2015 without any form of payment. My wife worked for him for over 20 years before he ran for president. I’m happy to have been by his side and that he’s been using my song since the beginning.

The comment was directed at another X user who accused Trump of paying for endorsements from Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson. This post followed another comment claiming that Oprah Winfrey’s production company received $1 million from Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.

Winfrey, who has joined Harris at several events this election cycle, told TMZ on Monday that she “paid nothing” for her support. Her production company also said Winfrey did not receive a “personal fee” to appear at a September live event for the vice president, according to rolling stone.

A remastered rock version of “God Bless the USA” became the second best-selling digital song this week, according to Billboard. It comes behind “Goodbye Joe,” a song mocking the end of President Joe Biden’s presidency.
