SpiceJet to launch seaplane services in AP, says its CMD

VIJAYAWADA: Airlines SpiceJet has announced plans to launch seaplane operations in 2025, connecting some of India’s most remote and scenic locations.

SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh made the announcement on Saturday while launching a seaplane demonstration flight from Prakasam Dam in Vijayawada to Srisailam Dam.

He revealed that SpiceJet would operate daily seaplane services between Vijayawada and Hyderabad by March 2025.

SpiceJet has partnered with seaplane trials at multiple locations, providing crucial technical, technical and logistical support to De Havilland, the aircraft’s manufacturer.

The airline has the right to operate seaplane services on 20 routes, including Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Shillong. It will deploy connectivity on key routes once the infrastructure is ready.

Ajay Singh said: “Seaplanes have the potential to transform India’s regional connectivity, opening access to some of the country’s most stunning, yet isolated, regions. SpiceJet has always dared to dream big. With the support of visionary leaders like Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, we are taking concrete steps to breathe life into seaplane operations in India,” he said .
