PUBS were forced to close after a police officer cordoned off a busy city center street amid a major incident.

Police have ordered venues to close after closing streets due to a ‘road incident’ in Edinburgh.

Forensic teams in white suits were seen entering a cordon near a police tent while untrained officers stood guard around Cowgate.

The bosses of the Bachata Blues dance center revealed their evening at The Mash Home the nightclub was closed, along with all other businesses in the affected area.

They said: “Following instructions from the police, all Cowgate venues will be closed this evening due to a major incident.

“All entry routes to Cowgate are closed. Unfortunately we have to cancel tonight’s event as Mash House will do so. stay closed all night, following instructions from the police.

Blue and white police tape could be seen at the bottom of Niddry Street, which is House to a number of popular pubs and clubs.

A certain number were to celebrate Halloween events.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are responding to a road traffic incident in Cowgate, Edinburgh.

“Blair Street, Guthrie Street and Candlemaker Road are closed.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

“Thanks for your patience.”
