Bucks County commissioners vote to count illegal ballots in Pennsylvania ballot recount

The three-member board voted 2-1 to count these illegal ballots in the recount of the Senate race.

“I think we all know that precedent set by a court no longer matters in this country and people break laws at any time,” Diane Marseglia said. “So for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention to it.”

Board Chairman Robert Harviie, Jr. joined Marseglia in voting in favor of ballots that voters signed in one section but not another. Democrats challenged the decision not to count the ballots, placing blame for the error on election workers who failed to double-check provisional ballots before accepting them.

The board’s legal team suggested commissioners reject the ballots because the Pennsylvania Supreme Court had given clear guidance on requiring signatures for votes to be counted.

There were approximately 124 ballots that were not counted due to missing signatures.

Republican Senator-elect David McCormick won 48.93% of the vote and Democratic incumbent Bob Casey received 48.50% of the vote, triggering a recount.

However, as of Wednesday, there were about 80,000 ballots remaining to be counted, including 20,000 mail-in and mail-in ballots and about 60,000 provisional ballots.

Counties are scheduled to begin their recount on November 20 and have until November 27 to report their results to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Casey, the third-term senator, has yet to concede the race.

Philadelphia city commissioners also voted to count a “relatively small number of undated and incorrectly dated absentee ballots.”

“Republicans have filed a petition with the PA Supreme Court against all counties in an attempt to stop all counties from counting these ballots,” Philadelphia City Commissioners said in a statement. statement at Fox News. “They also filed a legal challenge challenging Bucks County’s decision to count undated and incorrectly dated absentee ballots. We are reviewing the files.

An RNC official told Fox News that the decisions made by county election boards were “ridiculous.” The GOP filed two lawsuits against Bucks County and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to stop the counting of those ballots.

“The court just ruled on this issue two weeks ago,” an RNC official said. “And it’s very clear to us that Democratic lawyers and officials see a way to make money from Bob Casey by trying this process, but Dave McCormick is already in Washington attending a Senate briefing. “

The Republicans hold the majority in the Senate by 52 votes to 47, not counting the seat of Senator-elect McCormick.
