This next AI feature could revolutionize Google Chrome

One of the latest trends in generative AI is AI agents, and Google could be preparing its own agent to become a feature of an upcoming Gemini extended language model (LLM).

The development, called Project Jarvis, is an AI agent based on the Google Chrome browser that will be able to perform common tasks after receiving a short request or command with more independence than before. The inclusion of AI agents in the next Chrome update could be the biggest overhaul since the browser launched in 2008, according to The information.

Google has already demonstrated how Gemini can be a shopping companion or trip planner with its current Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which powers the Gemini Advanced chatbot. In a future model, the Jarvis project will be able to close the loop by tackling various tasks such as visiting websites, filling out forms and making payments to fulfill the query given by a user.

For example, a Gemini 1.5 Pro model would be able to run the query “plan me a vacation in December with a budget of $2,000”; Project Jarvis would probably be able to execute the query “plan me a vacation in December with a budget of $2,000.” Book flights and hotel and send details to my email address, ” Tom’s guide note.

Jarvis, or “Just a Pretty Very Intelligent System” is a nod to Tony Stark’s AI assistant in Iron Man. Although the official name currently remains unknown, the codename fits as Google adds features to its model.

Google has shared details about AI agents since May during its Google I/O Developer Conferencewhere he noted that the technology would help with the processing of voice and video content and enable faster response times in conversations.

As reported, the Jarvis project could be part of the features of Google’s next LLM, which is rumored to be Gemini 2.0. Generative AI could be announced in early December, but it is not yet clear to what extent it will be available, notes The Information.

As Google potentially prepares to launch its own AI agent, many other brands have already introduced their own iterations of similar functions. The Anthropic brand recently unveiled its Computer Use agent, which allows Claude LLM to serve independently as a user of the device to perform tasks. The feature is currently in beta. In the same way, OpenAI Swarm Framework is a system of agents that work together to accomplish tasks. The company said this technology remains in the research and educational testing phase.
