Conspiracy theorists believe Donald Trump used a body double at SpaceX launch

Conspiracy theorists have spent almost every minute of Joe Biden’s presidency insisting that he was either a clone or a double during his public appearances. And it looks like this absurd idea isn’t going to go away in Donald Trump’s second attempt at the presidency. Because some really stupid people are claiming on X that Trump didn’t go see SpaceX launches Tuesday with Elon Musk in Texas. They think Trump was actually replaced by a double.

“#BREAKING: People are saying that a body double of Trump was just seen with Elon Musk at the SpaceX spaceship launch. Does this sound like a clone to you? an account known as HustleBitch wrote Tuesday.

HustleBitch’s tweet has been viewed over 3.7 million times, and accounts are debating the merits of the claim.

“Neck and face are much slimmer. Coloring too,” wrote a “verified” account in broken English. X no longer verifies the identity of accounts since Musk purchased the platform, allowing anyone to spend $8 a month to get a blue checkmark. And while the term “thinner” is debatable, Trump’s color was certainly darker than his average day. But this is not proof of a body double. Trump rather infamously applies some sort of makeup to make his skin darker, often turning an orange color.

Ed Krassenstein, a liberal influencer on Musk has not commented on Krassenstein’s tweet, although he has often engaged in dialogue with the man.

“Some angles look like a double but some don’t… I don’t know… what do you think?” an account called World Watch wrote.

To be clear, there is no evidence that Trump used a stunt double for Tuesday’s launch. That’s exactly what his face looks like. But the fact that these ideas are getting attention on social media indicates that people are willing to believe that almost everything is false, in one way or another.

Followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory believe everyone from Hillary Clinton to Joe Biden has been replaced by either clones or doubles. They often add the detail that the “real” politician was sent to Guantanamo Bay for a shady crime. But it is rare for Internet users to insist right politicians are replaced by fakes. At least, that was the case.

The one big exception during the first Trump administration was conspiracy theories that First Lady Melania Trump used a body double during certain periods. public appearances.

The fake Melania conspiracy theory was certainly funny, considering how the First Lady clearly despised her husband, repeatedly beat Donald’s hand when he went to get his. But there was also no solid evidence that the former and future First Lady was ever replaced by a lookalike.

Why are people so obsessed with the idea that stunt doubles could replace famous people? This part is not clear. Maybe it has something to do with how tuned in we all are to celebrity culture. The slightest change is noticed and can be analyzed from countless angles thanks to the wonders of computers and social media. But this obsession sometimes leads to very dark places.

For example, earlier this year the internet was obsessed with the idea that British royal Catherine, Princess of Wales was actually using a body double. Images of Kate in public have been taken apart and discussed on every corner of the Internet. well over a week. People noted that she hadn’t been seen in public for an extended period of time, and theories ranged from the idea that she had died and been replaced by a body double to the claim that she had underwent a butt lift. It turned out that a few months earlier she had been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone surgery.

Trump’s second term will be filled with cruelty and pain, as the new president has promised to deport millions of people and roll back much of the social progress made over the past two decades. But as horrible as it is, everyone must remain clear-eyed about the real fascist threat. When people start spreading ridiculous theories about replacing Trump, it does little more than distract from the challenges facing this country. Trumpism will have far-reaching consequences for vulnerable people in the United States. And this isn’t some dark conspiracy theory. It’s a campaign promise.
