    MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A family is grieving and Memphis police are searching for suspects in a fatal pedestrian accident which took place on Saturday evening.

    Memphis police identified the victim as her father and husband, Fredy Lopez.

    The family gathered over the weekend and again Monday to try to get answers about the identity of Lopez’s killer. He was said to be an easy-going person who wanted to do good to others.

    His brother said that on Saturday evening they both crossed Winchester Road to lay flowers at a memorial for one of their cousins ​​who died a few years ago, but the return trip to Winchester Road ended the life by Lopez.

    “My other cousin, he passed away a few years ago, and they went to put up flowers,” Lopez’s brother said, “and then when they tried to come back, they watched the cars come down and come back and they They were passing by and I didn’t see another car and it was too close to the right.

    Memphis police said a person driving a maroon car struck Lopez on Winchester and Heather Ridge Drive. MPD shared a photo showing visible damage to the car’s front windshield.

    MPD data shows pedestrian fatalities are down 15 percent from last year.

    Data shows there were 46 this time last year; this year there were 39 fatal accidents involving pedestrians.

    Lopez’s family says even though the numbers are down, it still hurts that Lopez is the latest victim.

    “Whenever he tries to help people, he always looks for five or more people. He tries to help people every time,” his brother said.

    According to her family, she is now seeking justice and a way to return his body to Guatemala.

    “It’s not right what they did to him. He lost his life, he has a family in Guatemala. He has a child and a wife,” Lopez’s cousin said.
