BELLEAIR, Fla. — Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam hosts the penultimate event of the LPGA Tour season at ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican Golf Club.

St. Petersburg native Brittany Lincicome is a two-time major winner on the LPGA Tour. But at 39, she decided this would be her last season on the tour full-time. Its last event, during its 20th season, will be a homecoming. Lincicome received a sponsor exemption for The ANNIKA.

“It’s super special. There’s going to be tears, I don’t know if it’s the first hole or the last hole,” Lincicome said. “When my parents bring our daughters, my husband caddy, to see my mom and dad, I have my daughters there, lots of friends and family, which is really cool, people can’t tell us to see play because we can’t come to your garden. It’s literally a dream come true to end up here.

WNBA superstar and Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark will compete in Wednesday’s Pro-Am. Clark will team up with LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam and world number one Nelly Korda. Clark, jokingly, set the bar very low for herself in a different sport.

“I tried to practice as much as I could,” Clark said. “I’m just an average golfer. I’m going to hit good, I’m going to hit bad. It’s what it is, I’m just trying not to hit anyone that’s outside the ropes.”

“What she’s done for women’s basketball and women’s sports and to have her at our golf tournament, I’m impressed,” Lincicome said. “I have a basketball and I hope she signs it for my daughters. It’s cool to see her out. I’ve seen her swing, I think she has a great swing and she has potential.

For Liniciome, this is not retirement. She would still like to play a casual event and in a Pro-Am every now and then. The first round of The ANNIKA begins Thursday.
