What Alabama voters need to know

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Election Day 2024 is almost here and there are things you need to know before you head to the polls on Tuesday.

Polls in Alabama will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.

What do you need to bring to vote?

To vote in Alabama, you will need to bring and present a valid photo ID.

What forms of identification are acceptable?

The State of Alabama offers several options for approved forms for a photo ID, including the following:

  • Alabama Driver’s License (unexpired or expired less than 60 days)
  • Alabama Non-Driver ID (unexpired or expired less than 60 days)
  • Alabama Photo Voter ID Card
  • State-issued ID card (Alabama or any other state)
    • AL Department of Corrections Release – Temporary ID Card (photo required)
    • AL Movement/Booking Sheet from Jail/Prison System (photo required)
    • Pistol permit (photo required)
  • Federally issued ID
  • American passport
  • Federal, State of Alabama, County, Municipality, Board of Supervisors, or any other entity in this State employee ID
  • Student or employee ID of a public or private college or university in the State of Alabama (including postgraduate technical or vocational schools)
  • Student or employee card issued by a public institution of higher education in any other state
  • Military ID card
  • Tribal ID card

If a voter does not have one, they can receive a free Alabama voter photo ID from various places.

There will be a statewide Amendment 1 on all ballots.

What is Alabama Amendment 1?

State Amendment – ​​Alabama Amendment 1 is a YES/NO vote on whether to transfer control of the land to the Franklin County School Board.
