Harrison Ford is getting involved in politics this year – in a way he never imagined.

On Saturday, November 2, the 82-year-old actor announced his support for Kamala Harris for president, marking his first official political endorsement.

“I’m Harrison Ford, I’m doing something I never thought I’d do,” Ford began his video statement, which was shared with PEOPLE. “Telling people I’ve never met who I’m voting for and why I think they might do the same.”

“This election, I’m voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz” Ford continued, speaking directly to the camera. “Do I agree with every single one of their policies? Of course not. Do I think they are perfect? Come on, for crying out loud, they’re people like you and me.”

Ford later said he supported Harris and Walz for some of their beliefs, including those regarding the rule of law, science and the idea that “when you govern, you do it for all Americans.”

“Look, I’m frustrated with a lot of things in this country. I’m sure you are too,” he continued, before referring to the former president. Donald Trump. “But the other guy? He spent four years pitting us against each other while embracing the dictators and tyrants of the world. That’s not who we are.”

“We don’t need to ‘make America great again’. Come on, we’re great. What we need is to work together again. What we need is to a president who works for all of us again,” Ford concluded.

In a separate video, the Indiana Jones The star spoke out more directly against Trump, saying he believes “the other guy demands unconditional loyalty” and that Trump “wants revenge.”

“Look, I’ve been voting for 64 years. I never really wanted to talk about it. But when dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding the alarm saying, ‘For God’s sake, don’t do this again,” “you need to be careful,” Ford said in the video.

“The truth is this: Kamala Harris will protect your right to disagree with her on policies or ideas,” he added.

Although it is its first official approval As a presidential candidate, Ford has spoken publicly about who he was voting for in recent years. In 2020, he revealed during a conversation with the former mayor of New York Mike Bloomberg for which he voted Joe Biden.

In a clip published on Bloomberg’s Instagram page, the two discussed the current issue of climate change and why they believed Biden could handle the issue.

“We want to talk about the most pressing issue in America today, which is our leadership,” Ford said at the time. “We want to encourage people to support candidates who will support the environment.”

“This man is a centrist,” said the Star Wars one elder said of Biden. “He said: he believes in a coalition, he believes in consensus. This is the Democratic Party.”

Ford joins a number of other celebrities who have endorsed the vice president ahead of Election Day on November 5, including Taylor Swift, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Aniston And Beyoncé.
