Rivals speak out on Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have hired one of the most exciting coaches in football, with Amorim becoming the the club’s youngest boss since Sir Matt Busby.

It’s big news in England, and just as newsworthy in Portugal, with Amorim leaving his post at league leaders and reigning champions Sporting.

Two of Portugal’s biggest stars have spoken out about Amorim to Manchester United, a duo who play for rival Premier League clubs.

Manchester City’s Ruben Dias told Sky Sports: “I wish him all the best, but not too much (laughs).

“He’s another Portuguese player arriving on the main stage of world football, I’m happy with that.”

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto had similar sentiments, speaking to the Portuguese press upon his arrival on international duty.

Neto was quoted via But Futebol: “The only thing I can say, like all the other Portuguese, is that I am happy.

“You can see that the Portuguese people have done a very good job, both in terms of players and coaches. The only thing I can wish for him is that everything goes well, except against Chelsea.

Respect for Amorim is clear

The respect that Ruben Amorim has earned is very clear and his work as head coach of Manchester United has made the Portuguese people proud.

Amorim’s impending arrival has also made United’s rivals a little nervous, with Neto and Dias fearing the new boss could have a transformative impact on the club.

United need Amorim to be special. A disastrous start to the season leaves the club languishing in 13th place, even with Ruud van Nistelrooy leads club to victory over Leicester in his final game as interim boss.

Amorim started work at Carringtonintroduced to the Ineos team, and is now preparing for his first full day in charge.
