Victim chases, leads Glendale police to suspects who stole $50,000

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily)— A man who hoped to buy a car with $50,000 in cash ended up being robbed, but he chased down the crooks and helped Glendale police make the arrests last week, investigators said.

Police said the victim dropped off a checkout at a Wells Fargo location near 91st Avenue and Glendale Avenue on Nov. 7 and took out a cashier’s check for $130,000 and $50,000 in cash.

He did not know that Reginald Chatman, 23, and Raymond Pouncy, 22, were hiding inside the bank and saw how much money the man had, according to court documents.

They followed the victim and her son from the bank to the home of a car salesman. near 83rd Avenue and Orangewood Avenuewhich is south of Northern Avenue.

Court documents say the victim counted the cash in his car while waiting for the seller to return home.

Once the seller returned home, the men talked about the car, and that’s when the seller noticed one of the suspects getting the money from the car.

The father-son duo returned to the car and called 911, giving police the suspects’ license plate number as they sped off.

The two men then set off in pursuit of the suspected thieves.

“A chase ensued, and what happened next was like something from the movie ‘The Italian Job,'” police said in a social media post.

The pursuit lasted several miles until Chatman and Pouncy ran a red light at 67th Avenue and Olive Avenue, striking a flatbed trailer pulled by a pickup truck.

Surveillance video from a city camera shows the father and son arriving at the scene of the accident as Pouncy gets out of the car, grabs a bag containing $900 from the trunk and runs away, the police said. police.

Chatman ran but the father grabbed Chatman and then fought with him, according to court documents.

But Chatman dropped some of the money during the fight and the father stopped to collect the money on the road.

Chatman then fled again.

City surveillance video shows the father still chasing her near a Walgreens.

Chatman was later arrested in a dirt field northeast of the pharmacy.

The son is seen running after Pouncy, who was running north on 67th Avenue. He was then arrested in a nearby neighborhood.

Police said they found more than $47,000 in the car driven by the suspects.

Chatman and Pouncy were incarcerated for burglary and theft.
