Quincy Jones’ cause of death believed to be pancreatic cancer, report says

Music legend Quincy Jones died earlier this month may be due to pancreatic cancer.

The 28-time Grammy Award winner’s cause of death was listed as an aggressive form of cancer, according to a death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and obtained by TMZ. No other factors contributed to his death, the outlet said.

The 91-year-old, whose work across generations shaped the solo careers of Michael Jackson and collaborations included with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Diana Ross and the Weeknd, died November 3 at his home in Bel-Air. He was surrounded by his children, his brothers and sisters and his close family, his publicist, Arnold Robinson, said at the time. No cause of death was revealed at the time.

Robinson did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for confirmation Wednesday.

The Academy Award-nominated composer and renowned music producer was laid to rest on Sunday during private funeral in Los Angeles, his family said. A larger public memorial is planned, but no date has been announced.

In a tribute to his father, “Parks and Recreation” alumna Rashida Jones, one of his seven children, said Jones’ legacy makes “everyone he met feel loved and seen.”

“I will miss his hugs and kisses, his unconditional devotion and his advice. Dad, it’s an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever,” she said wrote on Instagram.

Pancreatic cancer, known as “silent killer” is the fourth cause of cancer death and represents 8% of cancer deaths this year, according to statistics from the National Institutes of Health.

The aggressive cancer has been cited as the cause of death for several other luminaries, including the “Ghost” and “Dirty Dancing” star.
