NJSIAA Group Cross Country: 3 locals automatically qualify for Meet of Champions

Junior Voorhees Daphne Roskowski and North Hunterdon junior Kelly Shanklin both automatically qualified for next week’s NJSIAA Meet of Champions thanks to their strong performances at Saturday’s group championships at Holmdel Park.

Voorhees junior Austin Fritz joined them as an auto qualifier for the men’s races.

Riders automatically qualify for the MoC if they finish in the top 10 places in their respective groups.

Roskowski finished fourth in Group 2 and Shanklin fifth in Group 3 to earn places in the MoC.

Wild Cards will be awarded to the following 30 individuals with the fastest times in all six groups combined and who did not qualify via teams or in the individual top 10.

Teams advance to the MoC by a) winning their group or b) after all non-league teams from the six groups are merged, the teams’ top eight scores will advance to the Meet of Champions.

Team and individual wild cards will be released later by the NJSIAA.

Roskowski did not finish first in a major race for the first time this season as she ran 19 minutes, 10 seconds to finish fourth in Group 2. Leah Starkey of Ocean Township won the race in 18:57.

Shanklin’s time of 19:11 gave her fifth place in Group 3. Liliah Gordon of Northern Burlington won the G3 in 17:58.

As a team, the Voorhees girls were third with 125 points, with Rumson-Fair Haven first with 61 and Haddonfield second with 110. The North Hunterdon girls were seventh in Group 3. The North Warren girls were 14th in Group 1.

On the boys’ side, Fritz’s ninth place finish in Group 2 in 16:41 automatically sent him to the Meet of Champions.

The Voorhees boys finished fifth in G2 with 196 points. The North Hunterdon boys, led by senior Chase Kober who finished 17th in G3 in 16:49, finished fourth in G3.
