Coffee, Cookies and Chat with the Bay County Historical Society

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Let’s talk history, especially Bay County history.

The Bay County Historical Society gathered Friday morning for its monthly social meeting of coffee, cookies and conversation.

On the third Friday of each month, the Historical Society welcomes all interested persons to the Bay County Museum to assist in its mission of preserving the history of Bay County.

At each meeting, a surprise object or artifact is on display. At this meeting, guests viewed a wooden money box recovered from the Marina Civic Center before the recent demolition.

“What I brought today is this money box. The day before the recent destruction of the auditorium, I went there and collected some of the artifacts before they destroyed the building. It’s a money box and it seemed to me to be a very pretty sort of wooden object. We just want people to come and talk about history. Whatever you want to talk about, we’re ready,” said Bob Hurst, vice president of the Bay County Historical Society.

The Historical Society is asking if anyone knows the story behind the money box or other artifacts to visit the museum located in downtown Panama City at 133 Harrison Ave, Panama City, FL 32401. The museum is in free entry and open Tuesday to Friday.
