Johns Hopkins beats sixth-ranked Dickinson 4-2

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins got a total of three goals and three assists from its seniors as the Blue Jays beat sixth-ranked Dickinson 4-2 Friday night in the regular season finale . JHU secures first seed in the Centennial Conference tournament as the Jays improve to 11-3-3 and 7-1-1 in the conference. The Red Devils have their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped as they fall to 13-2-3 and 4-2-3 at the Centenary.

The scoring started early as the Blue Jays got on the board in the 11thth minute. Aidan Dunphy played a long ball Will Sangpachatanaruk near the baseline. He sends the ball over his defender then crosses it into the area. The ball passed to Scotty Colemanwho took a touch to set up then pushed the ball home.

Less than two minutes later, Dickinson had a chance to equalize when Saul Iwowo fouled in the box. Nicholas Dwamena took the penalty for the Red Devils and chose the bottom left corner with his shot. However, a dive Simon Turner I put my hand on it to make it fall.

The Blue Jays responded quickly when they got a free kick 27 yards from Dickinson’s goal. Meyer’s free kick hits the crossbar and Andrus brought it back to Dunphy, who buried it only five yards away.

Dickinson did not go away however as Iwowo got his second of the evening in the 73rd minute to make it a 4-2 match. Sallade sent a long ball into the box, where Westin Fryberger played it back across the mouth of the goal to Iwowo, who touched it past Turner from the doorstep.

Hopkins had a 13-11 advantage in shots and a 6-4 advantage in the corners. Turner finished with three saves in just over 72 minutes of action. Loucas Costéas played the rest of the match without facing a shot on goal. George made one save before giving way to Gavin Marr at half-time. Marr made two saves in the second half.

Hopkins will host a Centennial Conference semifinal on Friday, Nov. 6 at Homewood Field. Match time will be announced on Monday.
