Miners paid more in corporation tax than all other sectors of the economy combined in 2022-23, new data from the Australian Taxation Office shows, with Rio Tinto, BHP and Fortescue paying a combined $43 billion.

The latest annual overview of corporation tax payments shows more than 1,200 companies, including Qantas, Glencore and AGL Energy, paid no income tax during the year. Under tax law, businesses cannot legitimately pay any income tax due to accounting losses and tax deductions.
