AMD confirms its next-generation RDNA 4 GPUs will launch in early 2025

AMD’s Q3 2024 earnings call today wasn’t optimistic about overall gaming revenue, but it did confirm a hot new GPU rumor, specifically the launch of next-gen RDNA 4 components from AMD early next year. “We are on track to launch the first RDNA4 GPUs in early 2025,” said AMD CEO Lisa Su and the company confirmed at PCWorld that this is the first time he has shared these plans publicly.

“In addition to a big increase in gaming performance, RDNA 4 delivers significantly better ray tracing performance and adds new AI capabilities,” Su said on the call.

AMD expects its gaming revenue to continue to decline this quarter, largely due to aging PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, and that’s not exactly the company’s main focus anyway these days. On today’s call, Su highlighted that gaming only accounts for 2% of the company’s revenue, while data centers now account for well over half of the company’s business. She says that after spending 10 years turning around AMD, her next task is to “make AMD the end-to-end AI leader.”
