Train derails at Queensgate and does not appear to involve hazardous materials

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A train derailed in Queensgate Saturday evening.

The Cincinnati Police Department and Cincinnati Fire Department were called by CSX Railroad to a train derailment under the 6th Street Viaduct that occurred around 9 p.m.

Police said eight to nine train cars derailed and one car entered Mill Creek. The incident does not appear to involve hazardous materials, police said.

Cincinnati Deputy Fire Chief Matt Flagler said the train was being prepared for transport when a derailment occurred during the process. Some cars hit the support of the 6th Street overpass.

The 6th Street Viaduct (US 50) was closed in both directions between State St. and Freeman Avenue, but was reopened a few hours later.

The Cincinnati Fire Department said their initial investigations indicated there were no injuries.

Flagler said the derailed cars were carrying automobiles and there was no danger to the public.
