KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 40,000 traffic summonses were issued to commercial vehicles for various offenses nationwide in the first nine months of the year, a senior police official said.

Bukit Aman Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said some 38,367 summons were issued in various operations between January and September.

“We have carried out 4,822 operations nationwide this year and seized 177 vehicles.

“We are aware that there have been a lot of accidents involving heavy vehicles in recent times, which is why we have always been proactive in carrying out control operations on these commercial vehicles,” he said. said when contacted yesterday.

Commissioner Mohd Yusri said 17,905 people were killed in accidents across the country between January and October.

“Of the overall total, the majority of those killed were in cars (15,402), followed by motorcycles (1,040), trucks (825) and all-terrain vehicles (619), while 19 were pedestrians “, he indicated.

This year, some 198 accidents involved commercial vehicles, he said.

“A total of 97 of these cases were fatal accidents, followed by 32 cases where the victims were seriously injured and 39 cases where the victims were slightly injured,” he added.

Commissioner Mohd Yusri reminded all road users to be extra careful during the northeast monsoon season when heavy rains are expected.

“On the road, always pay attention to the safety of all road users.

“Pay attention to road conditions and also be aware of other road users,” he said.

For those who experience a vehicle breakdown, Commissioner Mohd Yusri advised them to place sufficient signage to alert other road users.

“Park in the hard shoulder and make sure there are sufficient signs to indicate that a vehicle has broken down or broken down.

“Such measures are essential to prevent accidents involving broken down vehicles,” he said.

On November 21, multiple accidents caused nearly 20 deaths.

In another incident, a married couple and their four-year-old daughter were killed in an accident on the Duta-Ulu Kelang (Duke) Highway after their motorcycle crashed into the back of a truck.

In Sarawak, eight people were killed following a road collision between a multi-purpose vehicle and a 4×4 on the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarikei.
