Conditions improve in Las Vegas after winter storm

Mother Nature has been putting New Mexico on a roller coaster ride lately. People had 80 degree weather one month, then record snowfall the next.

LAS VEGAS, NM – Mother Nature has recently put New Mexico on a roller coaster. People had 80 degree weather one month, then record snowfall the next.

KOB 4 Meteorologist Brandon Richards spent the last few days in Las Vegas, where the snowfall has definitely taken its toll.

The slow process of melting waters began Friday in Las Vegas after the city was buried under more than 2 feet of snow.

The roads looked better across town as the plows and people got to work, including Jorge Romero of Price Furniture in Las Vegas.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this much snow, but it’s good because we need it,” said Price Furniture employee Jorge Ortiz.

KOB 4 also spoke with Las Vegas resident Sophia Romero, who said she’s happy to just have the power.

“Honestly, I was ready for this, and the Internet sources, DesertGate our Internet provider, have been great with keeping us informed and everything. So we were lucky that we didn’t lose power or internet, and I’m very grateful for that, as is my child,” Romero said.

Northbound Interstate 25 is also closed. We spoke to truckers who didn’t want to be filmed, but who told us they’d been waiting nearly two days to get back on the road.

Much of Interstate 25 south of Las Vegas was actually clear, with snow mostly remaining on the sides of the road.

Overall, the good news is that this moisture was much needed in many areas and a mostly sunny weekend is ahead.
