Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced the launch of the city’s tree trimming program.

The program will address mature trees on city streets, city leaders said. It’s an effort that hasn’t been done in Albany in more than a generation.

The program is expected to last four years and cost $3.6 million. Half the cost is funded by federal grants and the American Forests’ Catalyst Fund.

Work on the city’s trees begins this week.

City leaders expect about 25% of the city’s mature trees to be trimmed by March 2025, they said.
