Food 4 SA campaign kicks off, aims to raise four million pounds of food

SAN ANTONIO – Nearly one in five San Antonio residents struggle with food insecurity, a growing problem that prompted the launch of the annual “Food 4 SA” campaign this morning at the San Antonio Food Bank.

Eric Cooper, CEO of the food bank, highlighted the urgent need for food distribution, saying, “We feed approximately 105,000 people each week and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. »

This year’s campaign aims to significantly increase its goal from the traditional one million pounds to four million pounds of food.

“We thought we could get to that four million pounds. We’ve gotten close to it in years past, but with the number of families coming to collect food from the food bank, we really need help. We don’t We’re not good enough,” Cooper said. added.

Volunteers gathered early today to launch the campaign, packing and distributing food items to curbside locations.

Many highlighted the importance of their efforts, emphasizing that the campaign supports not only those in need, but also working families struggling to make ends meet.

“It’s the men, the women, our veterans, our seniors, that the food bank helps provide a meal for their families in times of need,” noted Brandy Ralston. “They have full-time jobs but still struggle to support themselves, and it’s for them that we run this campaign every year. It helps you be part of something bigger than yourself. “

The ‘Food 4 SA’ campaign will run until November, encouraging community members to support local families by donating to the food bank, at any Security Service Bank location or at participating HEB stores.
