No. 18 Point Pleasant Boro rallies late to beat Delran in CJ2 semifinal – Women’s soccer

Elise Viggiano scored a late goal to edge top-seeded and No. 18 Point Pleasant Boro. NJ.com Top 20, a come-from-behind victory over fifth-seeded Delran in the semifinals of the Central Jersey Group 2 tournament in Point Pleasant.

The Panthers (17-2-2) will face Wall in league play Thursday at Wall. The Crimson Knights beat Point Boro 1-0 in the CJ2 quarterfinals last year. The Panthers last clinched a finals berth during the 2015-16 season.

With about two minutes left, Viggiano took advantage of a pass from Abby Hannemann and fired a shot from about 10 yards out that bounced off the goalie’s gloves and into the net.

Gabby Mellet scored an equalizing goal earlier in the second half and Hannemann also had the assist.

Ava Bjorndahl made three saves in the victory.

Mya Jakcosn scored for the Bears (16-5-1) in the first half while Cailey Czaplicki finished with seven saves.
