Louisiana-Monroe assistant Cameron Blankenship apologizes after secondary incident with player

Louisiana-Monroe offensive line coach Cameron Blankenship posted an apology on social media after a passionate interaction on the sidelines with one of his players in a loss to Marshall on Saturday.

“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during (Saturday’s) game,” Blankenship wrote. “I recognize that my physical contact with a player was inappropriate and I take full responsibility for it. I appreciate the trust of our players and there is no excuse for my actions. I am determined to learn from this incident. I appreciate the support of our team and am dedicated to creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone to move forward.

During the game, Blankenship was seen on camera yelling at offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. Blankenship ran after Hutchinson and appeared to push him to the sidelines while continuing to berate him, eventually having to be taken away by another player.

Louisiana-Monroe released a statement after the match, addressing the incident, stating that disciplinary action against Blankenship would be taken.

“This behavior is unacceptable and is not the way ULM football conducts its business,” the statement read in part.

Louisiana-Monroe, in its first season under head coach Bryant Vincent, fell to 5-3 (3-2 Sun Belt) with the loss to Marshall. He returned to action in Week 11 against Texas State.
