    THE Nashville Predators will face the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Monday in what is sure to be an emotional return for the forward Steven Stamkos.

    Stamkos, who spent 16 seasons with the Lightning after being drafted first overall in 2008, signed a four-year contract with the Predators over the summer. This will be his first game against the Lightning and his first visit to Tampa as a member of the opposing team.

    Nashville (3-5-0) enters the game on a three-game winning streakwho just beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime on Saturday at Bridgestone Arena. Tampa Bay (5-3-0) blanked the Washington Capitals 3-0 in their most recent victory.

    The Predators and Lightning are tied 2-2 after two periods and Stamkos assisted on both Nashville goals.

    After contributing to O’Reilly’s power play goal to make it 2-1, Stamkos found Gustav Nyquist skating toward the Tampa net late in the second.

    Nyquist fired a quick shot past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to tie the score.

    The Predators’ power play is showing signs of life: At 10:19 of the second period, Ryan O’Reilly scored a rebound to bring Nashville within one point.

    The initial shot came from Jonathan Marchessault and O’Reilly was right in front of the Tampa net, ready to take advantage of the powerful shot.

    Steven Stamkos was also credited with an assist, his first against the Lightning.

    Earlier, Nikita Kucherov seemingly scored to make it 3-0, but the Predators challenged the play for offside. Upon review, Kucherov drove the puck into the zone, placing it offside and taking the goal off the board.

    After Stamkos was honored with a video tribute on the video board, Lightning forward Brayden Point put the home team up 1-0 with a dazzling goal.

    Collecting the puck along the boards, Point carried the puck to Roman Josi, then went around him to score.

    Then, with just 37 seconds left in the first, Point found Mitchell Chaffee on a layup pass. Chaffee then slipped past the Predators defense for an open shot on Saros, making it 2-0 for the Lightning.

    Lightning Honors Steven Stamkos With Tribute Video, Stamkos Shows Appreciation

    During the first televised timeout of the match, with about seven minutes elapsed in the first half, fans at Amalie Arena were treated to a video tribute to Steven Stamkos.

    This type of video is usual for players when they return to visit their old team, but this moment was more serious, considering the impact Stamkos had in Tampa.

    Stamkos watched the video, then skated onto the ice and raised his stick to thank the fans.

    As expected, Lightning fans sat down early to watch their favorite former captain in warmups.

    Fans held up signs reading “Tampa Bay misses you, Stammer” and “Thanks Stamkos for the memories” as Stamkos skated on the Nashville side for warmups.

    THE Nashville Predators against the Tampa Bay Lightning will be televised exclusively by ESPN+which is ESPN’s nationwide subscription streaming service, with streaming also available on Hulu.
