Platte Valley duo signs to play college volleyball; Greeley Central announces Hall of Fame class

Some of the most prominent and talented athletes in the decorated history of the Platte Valley women’s volleyball program will only raise their profile even further in the years to come.

Broncos seniors Lauryn Uyemura and Karsyn Fetzer signed with top college programs during the initial signing date Wednesday at Platte Valley High School.

Fetzer is headed to Division I Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington.

Uyemura is bound for Division II Regis University in Denver.

Uyemura and Fetzer might just be the most prolific duo in Platte Valley girls volleyball history, and they have the numbers to back it up.

In the Broncos’ first game in a Class 3A state tournament this week — a 3-0 second-round win Thursday over Resurrection Christian — Fetzer, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, had 1,649 kills, 226 aces, 170 total blocks and 1,330 digs in 355 sets throughout his career.

This season alone, she has 418 kills, 67 aces, 54 total blocks and 305 digs in 102 sets.

Uyemura, meanwhile, entered the second day of the state tournament Friday with 3,416 career assists, 328 kills, 217 aces, 39 total blocks and 900 digs in 372 sets. This season, Uyemura has 856 assists, 76 kills, 61 aces, three total blocks and 191 digs in 102 sets.

Uyemura and Fetzer were two of the most impactful players in Platte Valley history.

As sophomores in 2022, the duo played a pivotal role in the Broncos winning their 15th girls volleyball state championship, which remains a state record.

They will try to help Platte Valley add to that total Saturday night at the Denver Coliseum.
