“I’m going to submit him again” – Adriano Moraes plans to repeat his performance against Danny Kingad at ONE 169

Top-ranked flyweight MMA contender and former division king Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes knows exactly where its advantages lie over the #3 ranked competitor Danny “the king” Kingad.

The two men are expected to face each other in a crucial rematch at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reugwhich will take place in prime time in the United States this Friday, November 8.

This will be Moraes’ first appearance since his hard-fought five-round loss to MMA GOAT. Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in their world title trilogy showdown at A Night of Fight 10.

He’s hungry to bounce back and take a chance on the recently vacated throne – but the same can be said of his old rival Kingad.

The Brazilian faced “The King” for the first time in 2017 at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLDwhere he scored a dominant first round victory to retain the ONE Flyweight MMA World Title.

A talented BJJ black belt, Moraes used his elite ground game that night – a strategy he believes will work in this rematch with Kingad. He said onefc.com:

“In the first fight, I managed to defeat him and work my jiu-jitsu well, so he knows my jiu-jitsu is better than his.

“I’m sure he’s worked a lot on his ground game. But I believe the ground game is his weak point, and the strongest part of my game is definitely jiu-jitsu.

Of course, a lot has changed in the seven years since these men last confronted each other.

Kingad switched camps from the famous Team Lakay to the new Lions Nation MMA and worked hard to improve his grappling.

Still, Moraes views the Filipino star as basically the same fighter – an explosive athlete with a dynamic striking game and decent submission defense.

“Mikinho” detailed Kingad’s strengths and weaknesses:

“His strong point is undoubtedly his striking. It combines wushu and kickboxing very well. He has very fast hands, strikes to the body and head, and also delivers quick kicks to the legs, body and head.

“He is a very dynamic hitting athlete. He has some very characteristic wrestling scrambles from Team Lakay, his former team, so he defends well in jiu-jitsu. But that’s what I’m going to work on to counterattack.

“And the part that leaves the most to be desired is Muay Thai, the clinch part, the use of angles and knees. And of course, Jiu-Jitsu. I believe jiu-jitsu is his weakness.

With this in mind, Moraes predicts a triumphant return and a repeat of his first encounter with “The King”.

Full of confidence, he was brief and sweet in describing how he envisions the battle unfolding:

“I’m going into this fight very conscious and very focused on the fact that I’m going to submit him again. I’ll get it.

Moraes targets world title clash with Reece McLaren

As the #1 flyweight contender in MMA, Adriano Moraes knows he’s knocking on the door of another world title shot.

With the retirement of former division head Demetrious Johnson earlier this year, the ONE Flyweight MMA world title is now vacant.

‘Mikinho’ is convinced that if he manages to overtake Danny Kingad on November 8, his next outing will put 26 pounds of gold on the line:

“There will be other fights between other contenders to see who can fight for the belt. But I believe that if I win this fight, the next one will be for the belt. »

As for who he would like to face in a potential world title fight, Moraes is eyeing the No. 4 contender. Reece “Lightning” McLaren – but not because he has personal issues with the Australian fan favorite.

The man known as “Lightning” is a longtime ONE superstar who has been a mainstay in the upper echelon of the MMA flyweight division for years. And even though the two men were to meet in the past, he was never confronted by Moraes.

“Mikinho” added:

“I think the next contender will be Reece McLaren. I want to fight him because he’s one of the only athletes in the rankings that I haven’t fought yet. We were supposed to fight in 2018, but it didn’t happen.

“He is an athlete who has been competing in ONE Championship for a long time, so I think he deserves to fight for the title as well. So I think that would be the fight to fight.
