As the government seeks to modernize and expand MediShield Life to meet changing healthcare needs, it must carefully manage costs to ensure the national health insurance scheme remains sustainable and premiums are affordable for all, said MP Wan Rizal. He welcomed the move to allow more flexibility in approving institutions and services for MediShield Life coverage, as there has been significant growth in the scope of medical services and advanced treatments in Singapore. However, he suggested establishing clear criteria for essential coverage and implementing regular financial reviews that will allow for timely adjustments if necessary. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 11), Dr. Wan Rizal also requested that mental health services be covered in future evaluations of the program as the demand is growing.
